After not having a great season last year, Roger Federer has finally returned to winning ways in 2014. He has been playing as well as ever at the moment and it seems he is all set to give his rivals a hard time in the upcoming months.
The Swiss maestro has already won a tournament this year i.e. the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and now, he is looking forward to his next assignment which is the BNP Paribas Open.
Talking to the reporters yesterday after reaching Indian Wells, Federer said, “This is a tournament in which I like playing. It’s a fantastic venue and people create good atmosphere here.”
“I didn’t win a lot last season, but, I had been working very hard and I am getting the rewards of that hard work now. The most encouraging thing for me is that I don’t have any niggle in the body at the moment. When your fitness is good, you are more confident.”
Federer had qualified for the title round in Dubai by defeating Novak Djokovic which surprised a lot of people around the world.
The Serbian player had been considered as the favourite before the start of that contest because of his recent form, but, Federer showed that he still had the ability to get better one of the best in the world.
When asked about that win, Federer said, “You always feel happy when you beat a player of the class of Novak. But, it was important to win the final match as well because at the end of the day, it’s the title which matters the most.”
Federer has played a total of 16 matches in the ongoing season and he has won 14 of them. These numbers tell the story of his current form.
