MURRAY MAKES QUARTERS

Andy Murray has cruised into the pre quarter finals of the US Open by defeating Feliciano Lopez of Spain in the third round. However, Murray had to work very hard for that victory. Three out of the four sets went into the tie breaker, but, Murray didn’t lose his composure and played sensibly during the vital moments of the match. The British superstar won the match by 7-6(5), 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(4).

In the first set, neither of the two players got a breakthrough. Both the players held their entire serves and the scorecard was saying 6-6 at the end of the 12th game. The set went into the tie breaker and both the players fought very hard in the tie breaker as well. Both the players were levelled at 5-5 in the tie breaker, but, Murray managed to win the last two games consecutively and grabbed the first set. In the second set, both the players broke each other’s service once and the scores tied at 6-6 again. Lopez was off to a fantastic start in the tie breaker and he took a lead of 4-1. But, after that, Murray made a terrific comeback and won 6 out of the next 7 points to seal the second set as well.

Even after losing the first two sets by such a close margin, Dodig played with the same kind of intensity in the third set. He broke Murray’s service in the ninth game of the third set and won the third set by 6-4. In the fourth set, all the 12 games went with the serve and the set went into the tie breaker for the third time in the match. The score was levelled at 4-4 in the tie breaker at one point of time. But, Murray won the next three games and knocked Lopez out of the tournament. In the fourth round, Murray will play against Milos Raonic of Canada.
