Andy Murray has been defeated by Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in his opening match of the Mubadala Tennis Championship which is being played at Abu Dhabi. Tipsarevic won the match in the straight sets by 6-3, 6-4. With the help of this victory, Tipsarevic has made his way into the final 4 where he will take on Nicolas Almagro of Spain.
Murray had come into this match as favourite, but, he was stunned by a superb all round performance by Tipsarevic. The Serbian no. 2 took just 84 minutes to win the match.
The first three games of the first set went with the serve and at the end of the third game; the score was 2-1 in the favour of Tipsarevic. In the fourth game, Murray’s service was broken and Tipsarevic took the lead of 3-1. The Serbian player managed to maintain the lead till the end of the set and won the first set by 6-3.
After winning the first set, Tipsarevic’s confidence was high and he started the second set in a brilliant fashion. He got a breakthrough in the very first game and then, served out the next game to take the lead of 2-0. Both the players managed to hold their service in the next 7 games and the scorecard was showing 5-4 at the end of the ninth game. Murray needed to sneak a breakthrough in the 10th game to extend the match, but, he didn’t succeed in that. Tipsarevic wrapped up the proceedings with a serve hold in the 10th game.
In the post match interview, Tipsarevic said, “I am delighted with my performance today. To beat a Grand Slam Champion convincingly is not an easy task. This victory is pretty special for me.”
