It’s just for the last 4 weeks that Agnieszka Radwanska has been working under Martina Navratilova, but, the improvements are already starting to show in her game.
The way she toppled her Swedish opponent Johanna Larsson in the second round at Melbourne Park yesterday, it was a ruthless display of tennis.
Radwanska is definitely not the most talked about player in this year’s Australian Open, but, she can prove to be a bit of a dark horse.
The 25-year old, who has been given the 6th seed in the tournament, seems to be well prepared and ready to take on some of the big names.
In the press conference following the match against Larsson, Radwanska talked about Navratilova’s influence on her game over the last few weeks.
The Polish player was quoted as speaking, “Martina has been a great help, not only in terms of technique and all, but, also on mental fronts. She knows what it takes for a player to deliver the goods consistently in the Slams. It’s been brilliant so far. We have been getting on quite well.”
When asked about the conditions and if dealing with the high temperature was a challenge for her, Radwanska said, “It was quite hot yes, but, when you are in your zone and things are going in your favour, nothing affects you that much. I think that was the case with me today. I started playing my shots pretty well from the word go and managed to maintain the tempo right through.”
So far in the two matches that Radwanska has played in the ongoing Australian Open, she has dropped just 4 games.
When reminded of her brilliant nick, she made quite a cheeky remark. “I would be a little worried if I had to face myself next.” That’s what she had to say.
